The night before we opened, we finished installing the front door just before midnight. We were ready for our first Heart and Home Boutique. It was a great success. Customers loved the atmosphere of shopping in a barn and finding unique handcrafted gifts displayed around antiques.
In 2012 the story continued as we painted the barn and scrubbed the roof. My husband is very talented and has done all of the maintenance and changes needed, 20 years in fact. Every time he finished a project for me I told him it would be his last, but I seemed to come up with new ideas to make the barn fun and interesting. I don’t tell him that it is the last project anymore because there is always something changing. We have used the barn for a graduation, anniversary parties, and our son’s Blue Grass band has played for family and friends. We will have a wedding reception for our son this summer in the barn too.
We would never have guessed when we moved here that the barn would become what it is today. I have found that people are tired of all the “Made in China” items, and are looking for unique hand crafted items and good artists to support. I am grateful for my loyal customers and artists who make my job fun and fulfilling. The barn is fun for everyone. The men are instantly attracted to the inside structure of the barn, while the women head for some exciting shopping, and the children can to sit and color. Coffee and tea are always available, and there are food samples on weekends.
Please stop in when I am open and experience it for yourself.
